CAR SEAT APPROVED JACKETS
The other day we had Kiddie Proofers to our house, which is a child-safety business that ensures your home is adequately equipped and essentially childproof. We learned so much from that visit and I will be sharing more about the changes we made as soon as they are installed.
One thing Kiddie Proofers did for us was check if my carseat with properly installed. The first thing he told me to do was take off Lily’s jacket so we could put her in the car seat. We live in Toronto and it’s the dead of winter. Despite this not being his recommendation or the general safety guidelines by whomever makes up the rules, I chose to leave her jacket on. (Mind you, it was not even her winter coat, it was a super light jacket that looks way puffier on camera).
So when I shared Lily on Instagram, in a jacket in the car seat, boy did the Karen’s ever come out to play! There’s no need to repeat some of the nasty comments I got, but the bottom line was that I was not following safety protocol by keeping her jacket on. Yup, thanks, I got that.
Lots of other messages also came in, however, from the AMAZING members of my community who not only sympathized with my cold-climate-living-situation but also with helpful advice on jackets that are actually car seat safe. So thank you to everyone who sent me your suggestions!
We have not yet purchased a car seat approved coat (we still use her really light weight one and switch her to a winter jacket once she’s out of the car) so I cannot review any of these options, but in the spirit of paying it forward, I wanted to share all the recommendations that were sent to me.
And as I said, these are only what were recommended to me. So whether they are officially safe or not, I cannot comment! Do your own research and buy at your own discretion 😉
Here is a list from YOU of car seat approved jackets:
I hope this was helpful! If you have any more suggestions, let me know in the comments!
