A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to join a virtual lunch hosted by Brita Canada and The Water Brothers . We chatted about everything from the environmental impact of fast fashion to whether almond milk or oat milk leaves more of a carbon footprint.
My eyes were certainly opened in such a short amount of time. And while discussions like this can be overwhelming and sometimes leave us feeling hopeless, I took away several tips to be more eco-friendly that I’m excited to share with you today.
By far the biggest takeaway from that lunch was that it really does matters what we do every day inside our home. And I’ll admit that there are so many areas I can improve on but it did make me feel good to know that I am making a difference simply by using a Brita water filter – a product I’ve always had in my home for well over 10 years. One Brita filter can replace up to 1800 single-use plastic water bottles a year. Think about the difference it would make if everyone used one?!
So that brings me to my first of 5 easy tips for how we can be more eco-friendly!
- Stop purchasing plastic water bottles. Carry a reusable water bottle with you and use a Brita water filter at home.
- Make your coffee at home
- Eat more plant based meals
- Practice proper waste disposal
- Shop eco-conscious fashion brands
Perhaps each of these tips would have seemed difficult or daunting even just 5 years ago but I think we can clearly see that so many companies and industries are making these types of choices easier and more accessible. It’s now just up to us to actually make the effort and follow through!
So thanks to Brita Canada and the Water Brothers for sharing these insights with me so I can both practice in my own home and share what I have learned with all of you!
